Medical Teaching Programme

Our Aim

Our main objective is to support undergraduate and postgraduate medical education back home. With this in mind a group of our alumni members visited Jaffna in 2009 and met with many faculty teaching staff, hospital consultants and medical students. We had a very constructive and open discussion, during which we made it clear that we would listen to them and would strive to support them in their identified areas of need and priority. We are honoured that JMF has bestowed upon us the role of co-ordinating the volunteer teachers from UK for their faculty.

It is a testament to the foundation in medicine that we received in Jaffna, that there are many good teachers amongst the JMF alumni. From 2010 – 2014, 35 doctors visited Jaffna to teach under the auspices of JMFOA-UK. They taught on topics as diverse as forensic medicine, general medicine, radiology, histopathology, anaesthetics, trauma/ life support, psychiatry, surgery and Personal/ Professional Development. They have found this a uniformly rewarding experience. We are always looking for more volunteers to teach; please contact our Educational Co-ordinator through the Contact Us page if you are willing to help.
